The Inukshuk Bag

Properly stored, opened bags stay fresh for at least 4 months.

Freshness Starts with the One-Way Valve

Our bags are hermetically sealed, not vacuum sealed. The one-way freshness valve lets air escape but never come back in. This protects the food from oxygen, light, and moisture, keeping fats and vitamins potent and the food fresh.

Why Some Bags Feel Like Bricks and some are Puffy

It’s normal for Inukshuk bags to arrive firm or “hard as a brick,” or puffy  Pressure from stacked bags on pallets naturally forces air out through the valve. A puffier bag means air wasn’t fully pushed out during production.

A Bag Test

You can check the seal yourself using the bag test:

  1. Press on the bag to push the air out.
  2. If you can flatten it and it stays flat (doesn’t re-inflate), your seal is intact and the food is safe to feed.
  3. If air doesn’t push out of the bag through the valve, look for a visible puncture.

Storage Tips

- Cut a small opening for your scoop, fold and clip the top closed.

- Push the air out through the valve before storing.

- Keep bags in a cool, dry space away from sunlight or dampness.

- You can portion and freeze food if needed.
